Vintage Postcards, Series 1

In the late 1800s and early 1900s postcards were nearly as common and ubiquitous as family snapshots are today. Few people could afford expensive paintings, photographs or art books at the time, but postcards were cheap and easy to transport. Many people collected them, luckily, for now we have some beautiful examples of what amounted to pop art in that era. Some postcards were erotic, some even outright pornographic. Others featured pastoral scenes or cityscapes. One of the favorite subjects for postcard collectors, however, were children, either decked out in their Sunday finest, in wispy gowns that accented their angelic nature, or completely nude. Sometimes they were presented as angels or sprites, beings of spiritual innocence and playfulness respectively.
